What are you Writing? (Sunday Fiction Post-up: Vol. 38)

Time for the Sunday Fiction Post-up! Come share your current work-in-progress here. Hope your Sunday is going well. As always I try my best to keep up with the blogging and I always find this as a nice way to check in with myself on my writing.

The following excerpt is from a new WIP that is surprisingly Middle Grade. Wish me luck!

I invite you to post your title, genre/sub-genre and about 100-150 words starting with the first paragraph on page 32. I know I have a few non-writers, so you may also post an excerpt from your current blog post-in-progress. No need for critique, just a little writer love….unless you’d like a little critique then mention it in your comments!

Here’s mine :

“You are absolutely wicked.”

Poppy giggled as a gust of wind stirred the air around her. Leaves in bright yellows, oranges, and reds swirled around them in a circular dance. Everything in Summerland radiated vibrancy and warmth. The cottages in the village surrounding the castle grounds were painted in bright, radiant colors. Even the villagers’ trousers, shirts, smocks, and skirts were cozy earth tones splashed with striking hues of copper, burgundy, and canary. Summerland made Poppy feel alive. She never wanted to leave.

Wink chirped from the branch of the tree above them then landed atop Poppy’s head.

“Oh,” she cried. Poppy reached up to untangle the frantic monkey, but he dodged her grasp, flapping his single wing. “Wink, what has gotten into you?”

“Poppy,” another familiar voice called from the castle terrace.

“Now we’re both in trouble,” Stewart said, whipping his head toward the castle.

Happy Sunday!
