It’s week thirty-three of the flash fiction challenge by Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers, check out their blog and join in or read others’ posts and be inspired.
I’m usually so absorbed in all my tasks and writing based on deadline, it’s nice to sit back and write just for the sake of writing. This week’s prompt had me writing a quick piece with a fun ending.
Read mine below and feel free to leave a comment. Enjoy!
HEAD OVER HEELS (157 words)
The warm summer sun kissed Sasha’s bare shoulders as a spray of water cooled her skin. The small boat skipped across the bay lulling her into mindless splendor.
“Glad I convinced you?”
Sasha peeked from beneath her sunhat at Derrick, a light breeze ruffling his hair. She hummed a reply and closed her eyes.
“My parent will be in town this weekend,” he said.
“Oh? What’s the occasion?” Sasha shivered when Derrick’s broad shadow eclipsed the sunny rays forcing her eyes to open. In his open palm lay a beautiful diamond solitaire ring cushioned inside a velvet box.
“An engagement.” Derrick smiled, his expression hopeful.
Surprised, Sasha bolted to her feet. The boat cut through a wave and her balance wavered. Tipping over the edge, she grabbed Derrick’s arm, toppling them into the water. Once they surfaced, they clung to each other as they bobbed in the bay.
“I’m hoping this is a yes?”
And Sasha grinned.
