It’s week thirty-two of the flash fiction challenge by Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers, check out their blog and join in or read others’ posts and be inspired.
Technically it’s still Friday over here, so I made it! I love this week’s prompt, there’s so many ways this story could go, but this one automatically came to mind.
Read mine below and feel free to leave a comment. Enjoy!
THE ARTIST (152 words)
Fernando’s thumb smudged the charcoal across his paper, following the curve of a hip until his finger stopped on the edge of a breast.
Fernando looked at Monica where she lay across the couch fully dressed. So beautiful. His heart hurt that they’d never be more than artist and model. Too many hours spent like this without a hint of interest from her, and he without the courage to ask for more. The truth was he didn’t need to hire her—he knew every curve of her face, every line of her silhouette. He could draw her with his eyes shut, like he did now.
“May I see?”
Startled, Fernando opened his eyes to find Monica smiling down at him. She peered around the easel at her nakedness, and this time she blushed.
“Is this how you see me?”
Monica grinned. “Well, why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
